On May 21-22, 2024, CV Grandis Home in Bojonegoro, East Java, hosted a special workshop on pandanus weaving, led by Mrs. Suratijem, a seasoned artisan from Apikri. With decades of experience in crafting and selling pandanus handicrafts in the Yogyakarta region, Mrs. Suratijem shared her extensive knowledge with local artisans. The workshop focused on creating pandanus woven jars, attracting around ten participants eager to hone their skills.

The initiative was part of a collaborative effort between Apikri and the Indonesian Eximbank, aimed at empowering local craftsmen and enhancing the quality of their products. The partnership highlights the commitment to preserving traditional crafts while providing artisans with the tools and techniques needed to succeed in modern markets.

Mrs. Suratijem embarked on her journey to Bojonegoro on May 20, 2024, traveling by plane to Juanda Airport in Surabaya. From there, she undertook a four-hour overland trip to reach her destination. This dedication to sharing her expertise underscores the importance of knowledge exchange in the craft community.

The workshop covered various techniques involved in creating pandanus woven jars, a craft that requires both skill and creativity. Participants received hands-on training, allowing them to produce high-quality items that could enhance their livelihoods. The event was not only educational but also fostered a sense of community among the artisans.

Returning home, Mrs. Suratijem chose to travel by train, concluding a successful and inspiring workshop. The collaboration between Apikri and the Indonesian Eximbank exemplifies the potential for traditional crafts to thrive through innovative partnerships and dedicated mentorship.
